ICDI in support of SPO carried out a short project that provided awareness to Working Women & Girls in 3 U.Cs of District Peshawar, to break the silence on Harassment and having Knowledge of Rights and Laws protecting them from Harassment/ Sexual/ Abuse/ Harassment at work places; established 3 Working Women Support Groups (WWSG) and and provided them capacity building training.
The project targeted 2500 women and girls of minority community; through awareness and dissemination of I.E.C material of Anti-Harassment Laws existing in Pakistan.
After completion of trainings, two seminars were conducted, i.e. at University Campus, at Kohati Gate. In University Campus more than 160 men, women and girls participated in the seminar. The members of WWSG through skits and dramas expressed what they had learned in the training(s). At Kohati Gate more than 150 women and especially school girls participated in seminar, where they were given awareness on Harassment, its type(s) and anti-harassment laws existing onPakistan.
Certificates were awarded to participant who had attended the Capacity building training(s).
Linkages developed with Govt. Line Departments, NGO and other major stakeholder, coordination mechanism developed in 1 day consultation meeting. Representatives from SPO, Aurat Foundation, UN-Women, Blue Veins, Social Welfare Department, Peshawar Diocese/ Church, Media, Lawyers and targeted community participated in this meeting. The participants were shown a short presentation on the project activities and finding. The entire participant endorsed to establish a coordination committee comprised of the entire major stakeholder to work on the harassment issues of domestic and daily wages working women in future.
