Union Council Aza Khel Payan (District Nowshera) was affected in flash flood 2012 that claimed 6 lives and damaged infrastructure, houses, live stock and agriculture. ICDI conducted a Damage Need Assessment in this U.C; the assessment revealed that despite of many vulnerabilities, the WASH situation of this village is at worse; 94 % household doesn’t have latrine and using contaminated water for drinking purposes, which ultimately risking the lives of the inhabitants.
In August 2013, ICDI (with the support of MISEREOR) has initiated a project at U.C. Aza Khel Payan, District Nowshera; with an overall goal to bring a Sustainable Improvement in WASH situation of the targeted community through:
- Community Mobilization;
- Capacity Building;
- Awareness and Advocacy;
- Resource Mobilization;
- Mapping Exercise;
- Linkages Development and Networking;
- Construction of Latrines at household level;
- Restoration of Open Well at household level;
ICDI has established two groups (i.e. male and female), comprised of local activists and CBOs. Both the groups have received 10 days capacity building trainings in which they have been given in detailed knowledge:
- Community Management Skills (CMST)
- Important of Health & Hygiene
- Importance of Clean drinking water & Latrines
- Mapping exercise and saving mechanism.
ICDI is carrying out this intervention on community led approach and enabling the local population to mobilize their own resource to resolve their issues.
